Drawing Water was an experimental, participatory project as part of Art in The Open Philadelphia, June 9-12, 2011. Over the four days of the festival, I worked on three project components:

Each day of the festival, I drew 69 gallons of water each day out of the Schuylkill River by hand, with the help of passers-by. The average American uses 69 gallons of water each day in their home.

I created ephemeral and experimental drawings with river water and river mud on the pavement and on paper.

With the help of volunteers, I invited the public to make drawings about water on postcards to be mailed to public officials and water advocacy and policy groups.

Images of the water drawings on pavement are shown here. To see the full documentation of Drawing Water, please visit the project blog.
