Ocean Life | 2012
Ocean Life is a series of 52 small drawings on paper, depicting the intricate and geometric forms of various species of plankton. Drawn with actual re-constituted dried plankton, the drawings present the viewer with a visceral experience of the materiality of the subject at hand. As the basis of all oceanic food chains, plankton are the root of all marine life. But these diverse organisms are currently severely threatened by the effects of global warming on ocean water temperatures and acidification due to anthropogenic carbon dioxide increases. This project is intended as a series of portraits of these beautiful and important minute creatures.
